Somatic Economics
Identity
Somatic Economics is a domain within Coherence Economics that examines value and cost through physical system behavior.
It focuses on how the body carries load, responds to stress, and sustains or degrades under continuous demand.
Context
Conventional systems rarely treat the body as an active economic component.
Physical effort is often measured in terms of output or endurance, without accounting for internal strain and recovery limits.
However, in real conditions:
- sustained effort without recovery leads to fatigue accumulation
- stress responses manifest physically over time
- ignored bodily signals result in delayed breakdown
- continuous load reduces system capacity
As a result, systems may appear functional while physically deteriorating beneath the surface.
Somatic Economics addresses this gap.
Core Understanding
In this domain, the body is not treated as a passive carrier or external instrument.
It is treated as:
a load-bearing system with finite capacity, continuous feedback, and direct influence on stability.
This allows somatic states to be examined in terms of:
- load
- capacity
- strain
- recovery
- and long-term sustainability
Definitions
Somatic Cost
The physical load carried by the body during activity, stress, or sustained effort.
Somatic Tax
The accumulated strain resulting from continuous load without adequate recovery or alignment.
Somatic Value
The stability achieved when the body operates within its capacity and recovers effectively.
Somatic Drift
Gradual deviation from physical stability due to overload, fatigue accumulation, or ignored signals.
Implication
The body does not negotiate.
Exceeding physical limits results in:
- reduced capacity
- delayed recovery
- increased strain
- eventual breakdown
Ignoring somatic cost does not increase performance. It transfers the cost into future instability.
Boundary
Somatic Economics does not interpret the body in medical, fitness, or aesthetic terms.
It does not evaluate strength, appearance, or performance standards.
It treats the body strictly as a system component that carries load and determines sustainability.
Statement
The body keeps the final account. What is ignored accumulates.
